"Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve."
This event will provide an engaging, hands-on teaching and learning STEM experience for K-12 educators. Using the 4 pillars: Explore, Make, Design and Innovate, attendees will engage in tools and resources that encompass a wide spectrum of STEM education. Teachers will discover ways to reinvigorate classroom curricula and discover the power of learner-centered, authentic STEM learning experiences.
Attendees will experience and pursue the pillars through speakers, panel discussions, general sessions, and events such as networking, team challenges, a STEM vendor playground, and maker spaces. Participants will be able to define and articulate STEM education by developing a personalized action plan to advocate the importance of STEM in their schools.
In a world that’s becoming increasingly complex, where success is driven not only by what you know, but by what you can do with what you know, it’s more important than ever for our youth to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to solve tough problems, gather and evaluate evidence, develop theories, design and test prototypes and make sense of information. All young people should be prepared to think deeply and to think well so that they have the chance to become the innovators, educators, researchers, and leaders who can solve the most pressing challenges facing our nation and our world, both today and tomorrow.
At this week-long event, teachers will work together to:
- Develop an understanding of the WHY’s and HOW’s of STEM education
- Explore STEM resources and classroom project ideas
- Interact with like-minded teachers
- Participate in hands-on STEM sessions
- Listen to speakers talk about innovation in classrooms
- Learn to build Makerspaces
- Explore Coding, Programming, Robotics
- Grow Professionally
How This Event Came Together?
The STEM Camp leadership team is composed of K-12 Educators who have experienced programs such as Apple Distinguished Educators, Google Educators, and Keystone Technology Innovators. These week-long summer programs changed the professional lives of the team members. This team wanted to create an experience that emphasized STEM Education, where participants could truly engage in STEM learning. STEM Camp Edu is about teachers examining the impact of STEM Education and realizing how important it is in classroom learning.
